The Law Society has published the result of a survey of the legal needs of individuals in England & Wales.
The primary finding is that solicitors score highest for service satisfaction. 9 of 10 people who had used a solicitor were satisfied with the service they received, while 84% thought the solicitor provided value for money.
Unregulated providers, such as McKenzie Friends and will writers, received the worst ratings, with 1 in 5 people dissatisfied with the service they received.
64% of adults surveyed had experienced one legal issue in the past 4 years.
Most commonly, people visited solicitors in relation to wills, trusts, probate, residential conveyancing and family issues.
The main reasons for dissatisfaction with a service did not relate to price, but rather a feeling that the adviser did not do enough, or took too long.
Over 28,000 people took part in the survey, so it was a good sample, and the take away is that on the whole solicitors are providing a good service for good value which hopefully will re-assure the public, and encourage them to contact solicitors at an earlier stage in relation to legal issues.
